FASTER THAN LIGHT
This large scale project features a talented team of UAL animators. The lead animation director, "Yanbin Wang" brought me on to this project as independent composer and sound designer, allowing me to exhibit my skills on a much larger-scale animation than usual. The music in this animation is extremely tense, creating a suspenseful feeling throughout, complementing the high stakes of the animation, in a mission to save the world. The animation displays different scenes, each of which have different cues which different moods, despite the consistency in instrumentation and timbre.
HANAKO
This bittersweet animation by CalArts student Shannon Chen tells a story of a ghost girl locked in a bathroom. There is an overarching theme of longing for freedom which is concluded with the girl finding her own way to cope without changing her reality.
MERMAID
Acting as a Composer and Sound Designer for the project, this melancholy story written by Rita focuses on a mermaid finding out how it is outside of an aquarium. The end of the story shows her returning to the ocean for a sweet and happy ending.
BAKUNAWA
This beautiful animation by CalArts student Justine Alameda brings to life the story of a woman tempted by a mysterious sea serpent. The immersive sound design, crafted by Euan Su, enhances the emotional depth and tension of the piece, drawing viewers even further into its haunting world.
THE APPLE
The story, by Cynthia Su (Linko), shows an apple wanting to be a model and trying lots of different jobs and modelling settings, however none of them feel right. In the end, the apple ends up in the same place it started - the gallery, where it finds itself fulfilling its dream as a model for countless different painters.
COLOURFUL BIRDS
The LCC collaboration project is an opportunity for composers at Guildhall and animators at LCC to work together in producing a soundtrack alongside an animation representing the theme of 'Inclusive Behaviours'. Our aim was to educate staff at Guildhall; allowing them to better understand what it means to be an ally, what the definitions are around marginalised groups, and how they can use their own privilege to support access and break down barriers for minority groups.
ZHUOSA TAMA
This project features talented animator 'Alexandra' in the creation of 'Zhuosa Tama'. This breathtaking animation tells a story about a girl who has mixed feelings about the modern city and society. She recognises the high-tech convenience created by people, but the pace of entertainment in the city is too fast. She feels that her culture is being lost in amongst the development.
DEAR MOM
This intricate sound design involves a lot of attention to detail complementing the beautifully heartwarming message in this animation. "Dear mom" references a daughter and her mother's relationship as time passes.
DUCK DUCK
This large scale animation contains a variety of different production techniques to produce the developed soundscape heard in the animation. "Duck Duck" is a story about a brother and sister trapped in a time warp, with the reason being not what it seems.
GALLERY SKETCHING
This project features a light-hearted animation exploring a comical atmosphere, yet still possesses some elements of tension. The animation tells us a story about a girl sketching in a gallery. As the visits in the gallery move around, she is forced to draw quickly and trace her target as a spy.
JOURNEY
"At the beginning, a child left home due to the pressure from their family. The character starts to find a place to survive in the city, the process is hard but the character did it. The character ends up working in a building but was also trapped by the job. The ending shows the character reminiscing of days which were difficult but free." - Minxuan Zheng
